The love of one's family
Grows strong and deep
Leaving us memories to
Treasure and keep.
Read by Gregory Peck at Frank Sinatra's funeral, 1998
"To Those I Love" by Isla Paschal Richardson.
If I should ever leave you,
Whom I love
To go along the silent way. . .
Grieve not.
Nor speak of me with tears.
But laugh and talk of me
As if I were beside you there.
(I'd come. . .I'd come,
Could I but find a way!
But would not tears and
And grief be barriers?)
And when you hear a song
Or see a bird I loved,
Please do not let the thought of me
Be sad. . .for I am loving you
Just as I always have. . .
You were so good to me!
There are so many things
I wanted still to do. . .
So many things I wanted to say
to you. . . Remember that
I did not fear. . . It was
Just leaving you
That was so hard to face.
We cannot see beyond. . .
But this I know:
I loved you so. . .
'twas heaven here with you
On this Father's Day, I can't help but remembering Joe and his music. There were special songs that Joe related to and held dear to his heart. For Marilyn, it was For Baby (aka For Bobbie, For Baby), by John Denver. The words were so touching and said just how Joe felt about his "baby".

Another John Denver song, Country Roads, had a special meaning to Joe and Kelly and Erin. They loved to sing it together and always had to dance, too.

A verse from Splendour in the Grass |
|
|
Splendour in the Grass by William Wordsworth (1770-1850)
What though the radiance
which was once so bright
Be now for ever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass,
of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;
In the primal sympathy
Which having been must ever be;
In the soothing thoughts that spring
Out of human suffering;
In the faith that looks through death,
In years that bring the philosophic mind.

hi gerry, my name is richie mooney and i lived on 141st. at that time they called me dickie. was very much saddened by docs passing . we grew up together on st anns ave with tito pavon and nutsy collins.we use to frequent bobs candy store on st anns and becks bar also on st anns. the reason im sharing this is i dont remember ever seeing joe without a smile or a funny story to tell. his laugh was infectous to me and although i hadnt seen him for 35 yrs. he sent me a photo of you and him on vacation. my wifes name is gerri also.
I watched the Throggs Neck St Paddy's Day parade today and was so happy to see that Joe Docherty (aka Doc) was one of the Honorary Grand Marshals. Seeing so many of his family march in his honor was a wonderful sight. It would be hard to find a greater man to fill this post. Joe is dearly missed by many. RIP, Doc!
Joey
To all of us you are an inspiration,
The way that you lived, loved, and laughed,
It was truly an admiration.
You’ve comforted us now in our times of need.
I can feel you there now,
My uncertainties are freed.
You were a Husband,
You were a Father,
You were an Uncle,
You were a Brother,
You were a friend to many,
Unlike any other.
I can speak for us all,
I will say this one thing,
You are simply irreplaceable,
You were truly a King!
I love you Uncle Joey.

Last night I had a crazy dream
A wish was granted just for me
It could be for anything
I didn't ask for money
Or a mansion in Malibu
I simply wished, for one more day with you
One more day
One more time
One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again
I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you
One more day....
First thing I'd do, is pray for time to crawl
Then I'd unplug the telephone
And keep the TV off
I'd hold you every second
Say a million I love you's
That's what I'd do, with one more day with you
One more day
One more time
One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again
I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you
One more day
One more time
One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again
I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still, for one more day
Leave me wishing still, for one more day
Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you
One more day, one more day.......
Tommy dedicated his NYC Marathon run to Joe.
A beautiful day, sun shining and fun had by all. We all knew Joe made sure the weather was perfect. Tommy Baker started the day arriving wearing Joe's favorite summer hat. It was quite a site.
